The amount of fine has been increased in 83 crimes. 9 new sections have been added.

He said that Section 323 of IPC will now be called 115(2). Acid attack case will be 124(1) instead of 326A and rape case will be 64 instead of 376. Murder case will be 103 instead of Section 302, theft case will be 303(1) instead of Section 378. Robbery case will now be registered under Section 310(2) instead of Section 395. Fraud case will be 318(4) instead of Section 420.

Forensic investigation is mandatory in crimes punishable with more than seven years of imprisonment

BNSS is being implemented in place of CrPC. CrPC had 37 chapters and 484 sections. BNSS will have 39 chapters and 531 sections. FIR under section 154 will now be under section 173. Zero FIR and FIR can also be lodged through electronic medium.

Forensic investigation will be necessary in crimes involving more than seven years of age. Serious cases can be investigated by ACP and DSP. POCSO investigation will have to be completed in 2 months. Permission will have to be taken from ACP for arrest in crimes with less than 3 years of punishment.

Photos, videos, messages will become important evidence

The Indian Evidence Act (IEA) 1872 will be replaced by the Indian Evidence Act (BSA) 2023. The IEA had 11 chapters and 167 sections. The BSA has 12 chapters and 170 sections. Section 32 of the dying declaration will now be known as Section 26. Photos, videos, messages will also become important evidence in the BSA. Also, testimony of doctors, police and other witnesses will be possible through video conferencing. The new law emphasizes justice instead of punishment.
